Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. It originated in Massachusetts (US), created by William G. Morgan. He sought to create a lighter indoor game for the YMCA (he called it Mintonette, from Badminton). It had characteristics from other sports like baseball, tennis and handball. Volleyball has evolved to be a global game played in the Olympics.
To win a point, the ball must be grounded on the other team's side of the court. A player begins a rally by serving the ball over the net. A team may touch the ball up to three times to return the ball, but individual players only once. Typically, the first two touches are used to set up for an attack direct the ball back over the net in such a way that the team receiving the ball is unable to pass the ball and continue the rally, thus, losing the point.
